LG Chem is strengthening its collaboration with Descente in the Chinese market through eco-friendly materials.

On the 25th, at the Chinaplas 2024 in Shanghai, LG Chem signed an eco-brand co-marketing agreement with Descente, committing to incorporating eco-friendly materials in shoes to be launched in the latter half of the year.

The agreement ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Kug Lae Noh, Head of Petrochemicals Company at LG Chem, and Wang Youcheng, Executive Vice President of the Footwear Products Division at Descente China Co., Ltd.

Through this agreement, LG Chem will supply BCB (Bio-Circular Balanced) POE*, EVA, and rubber products, and Descente will apply these materials to the insoles of their shoes. BCB products are made using bio-naphtha derived from waste cooking oil.

*POE (Polyolefin Elastomer), EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate): Highly elastic products resistant to impact, commonly used in footwear and life jackets.

Shoes incorporating LG Chem’s eco-friendly materials are scheduled for release in China in the second half of this year, and they will be sold with the eco-certification mark ‘LETZero’ label attached.

‘LETZero,’ launched by LG Chem in 2021, significantly expands the range of eco-friendly products. The brand name combines “Let” (allow, place) and “Zero,” signifying that only products meeting stringent environmental standards are granted this certification mark.

Kug Lae Noh, Head of the Petrochemicals Company at LG Chem, stated, “We will continue to lead the field of eco-friendly materials in the global market in response to customer needs."

Meanwhile, LG Chem has obtained ISCC PLUS* certification for 58 products. Additionally, in response to client requests, the company also offers a variety of other certifications, including UL ECV (Environmental Claim Validation), TUV (Technical Inspection Association, Germany), and GRS (Global Recycled Standard).

*ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification PLUS): An international certification system compliant with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive
