[Surface-processed Film] Eliminating glare with a sheet of film

Displays for TVs, laptops, tablet PCs, smartphones, and vehicles: the various displays that we use every day are made of very complex and diverse materials.

The polarizing plate is one of the key materials used to control the external light inside the panel to create a clearer picture quality.

It is produced by stacking several layers of film.

Among these layers, the surface treatment film is located on the top, the surface of the polarizing plate. It protects base films such as TAC (triacetyl cellulose) and PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) films that constitute the polarizing plate, while also providing additional functions, including low reflection, static electricity, and prevention of pollution that increase visibility.

The surface treatment film produced by LG Chem is coated with a UV-curable acrylate resin on the film surface to increase its strength and prevent surface damage. The surface roughness creates scattered reflection of light in various directions to avert glare.

Isn’t it amazing how such subtle differences in technologies applied to a thin sheet of film are providing more comfort and safety to our eyes?

To lead the development of display materials, LG Chem continues to exert our utmost efforts through constant research.
