[EPS] Making surfboards lighter

Many people are enjoying water leisure activities amid this long heat wave.

Surfing is one of the most trendy and popular sports activities.

The thrill and excitement of riding unpredictable waves is irresistible.

Nowadays, it can be enjoyed not only overseas but also on domestic beaches, becoming one of the major marine leisure activities.

The essential and most important item to enjoy surfing is the surfboard.

Depending on the board you choose, there may be a difference in how you enjoy the waves.

Surfboards are divided into different types depending on their length, shape, and the material.

One is a PU (polyurethane) board and the other is an epoxy board.

Epoxy boards are produced more recently than PU boards, and are made of epoxy resin and fiberglass fabric.

One of the advantages of epoxy boards is that they are lightweight, because they use expandable polystyrene (EPS) foam,

better known as "Styrofoam." EPS is a material made by foaming the thermoplastic called polystyrene (PS).

Due to the properties of foam polystyrene, it consists of a large amount of air layer,

providing excellent heat insulation, cushioning, water resistance, and sound insulation.

This is why they are used in various fields such as buffer materials for home appliances, building insulation, and food packaging containers.
